Biological resources
EMBRC offers access to living (culture collections) and preserved (biobanks) marine organisms from many different ecosystems and taxa. Other organisms can be sampled directly from the field.
CCMAR
Marine model organisms
Wide range of aquaculture fish species, invertebrates, macroalgae and model organisms namely sole (Sole senegalensis), seabream (Sparus aurata), seabass (Dicentrachus labrax), cuttlefish (Sepia officinalis), seahorses (Hippocampus guttulatus); others on request
Organisms collected in the wild
Organisms collected in the Algarve Atlantic coast (South Portugal) and nearby estuaries (intertidal, subtidal areas). Small boats available
Rearing of aquaculture animals
Laboratories and aquaria facilities available including climate controlled rooms, mesocoms for acidification studies
Taxonomic services
Taxonomic identification of invertebrates, fishes, marine plants and algae under request
CIIMAR
Biobanks
Access to ecosystems of the Atlantic Western coast of continental Portugal and adjacent estuaries
Culture collections
LEGE Cyanobacteria collection (400 strains; https://lege.ciimar.up.pt). Actinobacteria, Planctomycetes and bacteria from different phyla (Proteobacteria, Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes)
Marine model organisms
Wide range of aquaculture fish species, invertebrates, macroalgae and model organisms

Organisms collected in the wild
Sampling of species from the Atlantic Western coast of Portugal and adjacent estuaries
Rearing of aquaculture animals
Access to the aquarium facilities: 5L - 600 L tanks, RAS, salinity control, temperature, conductivity, redox, photoperiod control, diverse species tank, automatic feeders, faeces collectors, with technical support

UC - ACOI
Biobanks
Access to freeze-dried biological samples of marine fishes from the Portuguese coast that include the main tissues: muscle, liver, brain, gills, heart
Culture collections
Collection with >4000 living strains of cyanobacteria and microalgae. More info of the ACOI (Coimbra Collection of Algae) at http://acoi.ci.uc.pt
Organisms collected in the wild
Access, collection and supply of local marine and estuarine flora and fauna from the Mondego estuary (including saltmarshes, mudflats), adjacent coastal areas, rocky shores and estuaries in the Portuguese Atlantic coast.
Taxonomic services
Identification of marine and estuarine marine plants, algae, phytoplankton, zooplankton, benthos and fish samples with morphological characterization; Polyphasic identification of microalgae and cyanobacteria.
